UC 24hr Digital Media Challange
A downloadable game
Together we Thrive,
A game where a dog named Benjamin and a person named Sam are lost in the woods and need to work together to get out.
They utilise each other's skills and attributes to get past a variety of puzzles from Benjamin getting through small gaps and Sam being able to reach areas that are higher up. Alone they would be stuck forever, but together they thrive and survive.
Together We Thrive was intended to be a co-op game where one player can control Sam and the other controls Benjamin using the WASD and Arrow keys respectively, however, it is possible to play this game solo if the player is willing to play both characters simultaneously. The plan was for there to be the main menu, two levels and an end scene, within those levels Benjamin would go under a barrier that Sam couldn't pass to press the button and lift the barrier to then have both participants proceed to the next level. The next level was going to involve Sam pulling Benjamin up to a high place with them, where Sam would also pull a lever to the end of the level.
I wanted to show that you can Thrive as a team in difficult situations, with people or animals you may have never met before.
While My idea seemed doable, unfortunately, there were some major setbacks that were (even with preparation) not possible to prepare for. I had technical issues with my drawing Tablet being unresponsive, leading to a reinstalling of all the software, Unity packages that were old and were not being utilised, leading to those being updated. Unity did not support the aspect ratio I wished to use for my pixel-art assets, leaving me no choice but to have assets that were blurry despite having the best Pixel-Per-Inch appearance (300pi as for some reason 600pi was blurrier). on top of that all, after hours of struggling with code and not understanding why the simplest lines were not working, It then came to my attention that I was working with an old version of Unity and Visual Studio (the coding app) leading to another hour and a half wait for that to be installed, to then work on the game itself from scratch.
